Beach Volleyball Tournament

The finals saw them face each other once again and it was to be another exciting game.

With the score getting closer and closer, Mel D, the Alumni's star player, was able to corral some great hits, with equally amazing digs and consistent passing.  The Harbord Alumni team finished the game strong,  but not without some ooooooh's and aaawwhh's by the near capacity crowd that stayed until midnight to watch the championship game.  In the end, the Harbord Alumni team was able to finish the game strong and beat out a formidable opponent.

Stay tuned for our next Coed Indoor Beach Volleyball Tournament coming in the next month or two.

Teams & Rules

http://images.tvnz.co.nz/tvnz_images/sport/olympics_2008/sports_icons/volleyball_beach_volleyball_icon_x.jpgPlease be aware that we are using a modified indoor 6's and outdoor beach rule set for out tournament.  Please read the following rules to familiarize yourself and your team with the rules.

Players
Upon entering the court, a team must have at minimum 1 female player on the court.

Default
If by 5 minutes into the game a team does not have at least 1 female player and a minimum of 2 male players, said team will default their first set by a score of 25-10.

Scoring

2 sets to 25 or 20 minutes, whichever comes first

Rotation
There is no set rotation, other than rotating through the serving position.  Each player must serve every 4th time.

Backcourt player
The serving player is considered the designated backcourt player and cannot jump or block at the net.

Net play
A player touching a ball on the block, can play the ball, and will not be counted as a double hit.

Players may not touch the net at any time during play. A player may cross under the net without violation, as long as they do not touch anyone on the other team or interfere with them playing the ball or make contact with the net. A player is then allowed to return to their own side and play continues.

Pass Receive
A ball may be volleyed on the serve, as long as it has a forward trajectory and comes off clean off the players hands.
Each game shall be self-refereed. If there is a dispute, please re-serve the point.

Volleying

A ball may be volleyed onto an opponents side as long as a player is facing the direction that the volleyed ball comes out, with shoulders square in that direction.  Back sets or side sets onto the opposition court will result in a loss of a point.

Tipping

Open hand tips/dinks will result in a loss of a point. The ball must be hit cleanly with the hand, straight locked fingers, or curled fingers.
